The company’s logistics division maintains a number of depots across the country and is responsible for transporting and storing extremely valuable equipment. With this in mind, Canute chose to D-Link to upgrade its pre-existing, out-dated analogue CCTV system that would provide it with the best camera coverage and quality of image possible. Since the initial installation of D-Link’s surveillance solutions in the company’s Purfleet depot, they have since been introduced to the Newcastle, Coventry, Warrington, Carlisle and Kendal sites with more scheduled for the immediate future.

The Drivers Behind the Roll Out

Security and safety have always been high priorities for Canute. Transporting and storing expensive equipment securely requires a high quality, reliable surveillance solution. Mark Longhurst, Group Infrastructure and Support Team Manager at Canute, provides an insight into the buying decisions behind purchasing D-Link’s security solutions. "Canute’s old analogue system was the ‘Rolls Royce’ of its time, but to upgrade the cameras and recorders to the quality required today would have been extremely costly. D-Link’s solution saved us 38% in comparison to upgrading, not to mention the superior quality and versatility that D-Link’s surveillance solutions provide."

As Canute benefited greatly from the deployment of D-Link’s physical security in its Purfleet depot, the company knew that rolling out security solutions across more sites would be advantageous to both Canute and its clients.

Installing the Complete Security Solution

A range of D-Link cameras have been installed across Canute’s depots including 360-degree cameras, cameras with full 1080p HD, day/night capabilities and speed dome network cameras with pan, tilt and zoom functionality. Mark acknowledges the benefits of having 360-degree surveillance. "We have our own workshops where we have mechanics that maintain our trucks. With D-Link’s 360s on our ceiling and walls, we are able to see the full picture of the workshops, providing us with peace of mind and flexibility" he stated.

The installations have been carried out by Nexus Global Net, conference, event and enterprise Wi-Fi specialists, alongside additional support from D-Link. Mark commented on his relationship with both D-Link and Nexus Global Net during the installation process. "Nexus Global Net carried out the installation alongside additional support from D-Link. This was an incredibly smooth experience, any minor hiccups along the way were dealt with promptly and professionally and I look forward to working with both companies in the near future as we look to continue the rollout across our depots."

The ability to monitor all sites from one central location was another driver in Mark’s decision to choose D-Link solutions. Multi NVR Pro is the software that enables this flexibility, it allows for all security cameras to be easily managed from one central location.

Benefits

Through entrusting an important issue such as physical security to D-Link, Canute has greatly benefited from an increased security presence across its depots. The company has recognised the improvement in theft prevention as security solutions have also acted as a physical deterrent as well as providing peace of mind and security.

Mark evaluates the current situation so far. "Canute is continuing the rollout as planned. Along the way, D-Link has been really willing to work with us addressing any needs or issues we may have. D-Link are very much at the forefront in moving things forward and are always allocating resources. The service that D-Link provides has really stood out to us since the first installation."
